Mobile Website User centred Design
Although the world of mobile applications and mobile friendly website is just now burgeoning, Interpix Design has applied its many years of expertise in user centred design to a number of mobile websites. For example, we have provided a complete user centred design consultation for Telus's Koodo Mobile website. When they required an interface that met their brand promise of "fat free mobility" we helped them deliver a more mobile friendly website to their users.
They required a customer portal that functioned across multiple channels for multiple devices, including the features that Koodo and its users needed along with user-expected requirements like authentication.
In order for this website to meet its intended application it had to be truly self serve for users.
The process we applied for this mobile website design
In designing this user portal, Interpix Design followed a user-centred design process we have applied for over a decade now to the development of products for many of Canada's leading companies. This included:
- User testing of a rich sampling of the mobile website's users. These users were of varying ages, with a variety of education levels, working across a variety of industries and applying different usages for their phones. Users were given a number of tasks to perform from the website to test how mobile friendly the site was.
- Mobile user data gathering. Next we gathered data from the user test group and identified specific requirements that needed to be met to optimize the website's mobile-friendliness. Interpix's rich experience in interviewing users with the right questions and drawing out complete responses was a great help in elucidating all the data needed to improve the website's design and layout.
- Identifying improvement areas for the mobile website. From these test findings we identified specific changes to the mobile website that would make it easier to use and more practical for both the end user and the mobile website owner (Telus).
- Implementing improvements. These changes were shown to increase customer satisfaction (and reduce their frustration) substantially. Together with Telus, we were confident that we were introducing a product that would provide members with fat free mobile.
