While usability labs are very important, is all that expensive equipment and off-your-site testing really necessary? That's where a portable or even virtual usability lab can provide the best solution.

There are some advantages to eschewing a usability lab. User testing that "meets people where they are" can get first-hand feedback on how your website or application responds to users with different machine speeds, monitors and Internet connections. You just need to be able that your usability testing is recorded and monitored accurately.
