The Regional Municipality of York (York Region) located north of Toronto, is home to over 850,000 residents, 25,000 businesses and 395, 000 employees. The Region provides services for its residents and businesses that include transportation services, transit, water, wastewater, emergency services, policing, human services and growth management.

Viva is York Region Transit's new rapid tranit system that connects the region's commuters to the City of Toronto subway system and the province's commuter trains. Phase one of the Viva system features comfortable and accessible state-of-the-art rapid transit vehicles, frequent service, real-time information displays, transit signal priority and other high-tech features. Phase two and phase three will see the introduction of dedicated center-of-the-road laneways and a light rail system, respectively.
